It's time to tell you about ...
• The Christmas Tea - look for details by clicking on the Gift Certificate link near the top of this website.
• Two employee appreciation events we've recently hosted
• The Twilight Carriage Ride
• Some other Christmas events and plans
The Clover Cliff Ranch has always been recognized for both elegance and the more rustic. We're delighted to keep that tradition alive! The Christmas Tea will, of course be on the elegant side of that description. Hospitality will come in the form of delicacies served on pretty dishes.
Guests at the employee appreciation events wanted a mix that included some of the rustic touches.
• Berry Tractor salesmen were treated to that mix. Their sales manager wanted to provide a true getaway. He went out of his way
to serve - grilling steaks and helping to set up recreation events - among other intentional efforts to reverse roles between
management and employees. A part of the following review that the manager posted on Trip Advisor will give you a feel for his
experience.
"I recently put together an appreciation day for the salesmen and picked the Clover Cliff to treat the group to a few days of
fun and relaxation. It worked out great and the staff at the Clover Cliff helped come up with activities that suited our group
well. ... (We) very much enjoyed the expanse of property in the Flint Hills. Our group of 9 would highly recommend this as a
great place to go with a group..."
Although rain moved the group's skeet shooting inside to an an open shed, it obviously did not dampen their good time
together.
• Harshman Construction Company entertained about 100 people, including families of employees - a group representing all
ages. If you had driven by on that day you would have noticed a hillside covered with people and fun: inflatables for bouncing,
archery, skeet shooting, horseshoe pits, volleyball, croquet and a carriage pulled by horses for rides around the property. Not so
visible from the highway were face painting, pumpkin painting and a catered dinner, ending with s'mores roasted over a fire pit.
The event was a great way to reward hard work and also recognize family support.
The Twilight Carriage ride began by watching a team of horses - escorted by Runt, the dog - come up the driveway, bringing the carriage to the front door. Guests on the ride were thrilled to see remnants of stone fences from earlier days surrounded by fall colors, most notably the russet tones of bluestem grass. A minor delay when the wagon got stuck in mud served to give the experience an authentic feel. After the ride, guests enjoyed a steak dinner - including twice-baked potatoes, bacon-wrapped green beans and cheesecake for dessert. One of the guest's Trip Advisor review speaks to her feelings about the experience.
"There are no words that can describe the experience we had. Great pricing, amazing location and the friendliest people. ...
The food provided was spectacular. Every other word out of our mouths was, 'Wow.' ... We have with great enthusiasm spread
the word about the Clover Cliff, but also have jokingly thought of being selfish so we can keep this Gem to ourselves."
We've mentioned before that both the main house and the bunkhouse will be on the Chase County Country Christmas homes tour. We're hosting several other events during the holiday season, including a bank Christmas party and another company party. Lights are in place and ready to outline the property with a warm glow. Wreaths and garlands will soon be hung. It's a festive time in the Flint Hills of Kansas!
