Three Years Later
If you've read our Journal from the beginning, you know that just three years ago we began our part
of the Clover Cliff Ranch story as its fourth owners. You may remember that at the time, we had
never stayed in a Bed and Breakfast. You'll be happy to know that's no longer true.
It has been a very busy three years - beginning with furniture, painting, wallpaper and all the other
parts you can see. There were also those that aren't so visible - plumbing, electrical systems,
lighting, etc. in the main house, then the Bunk House, The Gables and The Cabin. We added
bathrooms in the main house so that every room now has its own private bath.
And we always remember the most important part of the story: the guests - hundreds of interesting
friends who have chosen to spend time with us in the Flint Hills. We've hosted weddings, photography
workshops, a high tea and a fancy Valentine event - A Night to Remember - that happened for the
third time in February 2017.
We told you last fall about the disc golf course that is still in progress. Progress means that 18 pads and baskets
are in place, lots of trees have been trimmed and steppingstones provide temporary crossings in the creek.
Bridges and signs are yet to come. You may wonder why we haven't finished every detail by now - we
usually move at supersonic speed.
Here's the big reason. We also started building a Grand Pavilion, located behind the main house. The
finished look will be very similar to the main house - limestone construction and lots of windows to capture
panoramic views of the surrounding tall grass prairie. We're thrilled to soon have a larger space to accommodate
bigger gatherings - business conferences, family reunions and more weddings, of course. We'll share more
details soon. We'll also post pictures in Photos.
We're happy every day that we chose to preserve and build on the historic past that began in the 1860s with
the Blackshere family, continued with the Prather family, then Donahues and now Harshmans - that's us.
We hope you'll find a reason to come to Kansas and make time for a visit. We love meeting new friends.
