We Love a Party
Chase County Chamber of Commerce began the Christmas season by lighting the historic bridge in Cottonwood Falls, a perfect opportunity for us to invite guests to tea earlier in the day at the Clover Cliff. Although our original plan was to serve 20 guests, on November 23 we happily welcomed 30 who were eager to enjoy the festive atmosphere in this historic home.
A cold wind outside prompted our favorite host to provide valet parking at the front door. The wait staff, dressed in white
aprons and caps began a formal tea service that included finger sandwiches and fruit, ending with colorful petit fours. We heard echoes of laughter and saw lots of smiles. We think everyone enjoys taking a few moments to be entertained in a style that was once more common.
Queen Victoria probably didn't decorate cookies at the conclusion of her teatime but we didn't need her permission to send our guests home with a few of their own sweet treats. After they finished creating unique cookie designs, guests used warm fingertip towels to take care of any sticky residue.
We've told you before that the Clover Cliff provides hospitality for guests with a wide range of interests. Less than two weeks after we entertained at the formal tea, we'll be entertaining a houseful of hunters who won't want to take time for finger sandwiches or petit fours. And even before the hunters come, we'll happily welcome dozens - if not hundreds - of guests for the Chase County Country Christmas Home Tour, a big day in the Flint Hills of Kansas. We're thankful for the opportunity to serve guests who come to be formal, as well as those who come to enjoy other options.
